ASDWA’S New PFAS – Source Water Protection Guide and Toolkit

PFAS at Landfills: Investigations in New York and Vermont

Please join the Northeast Waste Management Officials’ Association (NEWMOA) for a webinar to help understand the prevalence of poly- and perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in the environment and the risk it might pose to the public. Join us to learn more and ask your questions!

1:30 to 3:00 (Eastern)

New York State Inactive Landfill Initiative – Comprehensive Program to Identify, Prioritize and Address Priority Solid Waste Sites For Potential Impacts on Drinking Water Quality in New York State
Vincent Fay, Bureau of Solid Waste Management, New York Department of Environmental Conservation will present data from the comprehensive effort to evaluate and prioritize over 1,750 inactive solid waste sites statewide to determine any potential impacts from PFAS and/or 1,4-dioxane, including groundwater sampling and analysis at over 100 inactive landfills.

PFAS Into & Out From Landfills
Kaesey Kathan, Solid Waste Management Program, Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation will present the results of two recent efforts: a study on landfill leachate management and treatment options; and the analysis of over 100 samples taken from the various incoming wastes at the state’s largest landfill, including WWTF and industrial sludges, contaminated soils, bulky waste, textiles, carpeting and commercial customer wastes.

FREE for federal, state, and local government officials only.  All others must pay a $75 registration fee with a credit card when registering.

PFAS: Advancing the Understanding of Fate and Transport

Please join the Northeast Waste Management Officials’ Association (NEWMOA) for a webinar to help understand the prevalence of poly- and perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in the environment and the risk it might pose to the public. Join us to learn more and ask your questions!

1:30 to 3:00 (Eastern)

Fate & Transport and Recycling of PFAS in the Environment
Steve LaRosa, Emerging Contaminant Technical Leader, Weston & Sampson will present an overview of PFAS Fate & Transport including sources of PFAS in the environment and how it cycles through the different media.

Understanding PFAS Fate & Transport: Review of Models for Evaluating PFAS in Land Applied Residuals & Biosolids
Derek Sain, Research Scientist, NCASI, Dr. Erika Houtz, Senior Environmental Engineer, Arcadis, and Chris Shepherd, Principal Hydrogeologist, Arcadis will present the findings from a March 2020 study that evaluated the capabilities of existing models to assess PFAS transport from land applied residuals. The study focused on three primary pathways: leaching to groundwater, surface water runoff, and plant uptake models.

FREE for federal, state, and local government officials only.
All others must pay a $25 registration fee with a credit card when registering.

Managing AFFF Impacts to Subsurface Environments and Assessment of Commercially Available PFAS-Free Foams

This SERDP and ESTCP webinar presents novel technologies to remove per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) from groundwater and to develop high-performing PFAS-free fire-fighting foams. Specifically, investigators will discuss the development and optimization of cyclodextrin-based adsorbents to remove PFAS from groundwater, and the optimization of compressed air foam (CAF) and ultra-high pressure (UHF) foam delivery systems to improve the quality of commercial, off-the-shelf PFAS-free foams that meet stringent military specifications.

PFAS Fate, Transport, and Treatment

This SERDP and ESTCP webinar discusses approaches to better characterize per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) fate and transport in the subsurface, as well as a novel technology for PFAS destruction. Specifically, investigators present results of experiments, mathematical modeling, and decision tool development to further understand PFAS fate and transport in the subsurface as well as a novel technology to treat PFAS in water and other high moisture content wastes.

Innovative Technologies for PFAS Destruction in Investigation Derived Wastes

This SERDP and ESTCP webinar highlights advancements in water treatment technologies for PFAS destruction. Two SERDP investigators will introduce different approaches to eliminating PFAS from groundwater and aqueous investigation derived waste (IDW). Specifically, they will explore the use of electrochemical membrane technology for PFAS oxidation and plasma treatment processes for IDW.
